His first mission was in November, 11 1944. In his 85 th mission on April,22 1945, was shot down by enemy flak having bounced from parachute over enemy territory, fell on the roof of a house which caused broking his two ankles. With great difficulty , reaches the ground, where was threatened with death by italian facists. He was saved and taken prisoner by a corporal from the German army, which took him to a german hospital , where was treated very well. On the occasion, the allied troops were near the hospital. The Germans were not able to evacuate many of the wounded. The doctor Commander, for fear that italian partisans would kill the german wounded left , handed a gun to Lt Coelho and ask him to protect the wounded from partisans. The partisans soon arrive and Lt Coelho was forced to take the gun to protect the wounded germans. After a lot of talking he was able to convince the partisans to leave the germans alive. He was awarded with brazilian Aviation Cross A and B, Blood cross and U.S. DFC and Air Medal. A great patriot, heroe and humanitarian character.

He was the champion in number of combat missions, 100 Before going to Italy, he piloted a PBY Catalina wich sunks german u-boat type IXD U-199 near Rio de Janeiro in july,31 1943.
