Commander of the II./SS-PzRgt 12 "Hitlerjugend" (equipped by tanks Pz.IV) SS-Stubaf. Karl-Heinz Prinz who can be seen here during the move to the front on 6 June 1944. In future combats near Caen he was awarded the Knight Cross and was killed north-east of Falaise on 14 August 1944.

Tankers from 2 Kp./SS-PzRgt 12 "Hitlerjugend": Jochen Dedow, Werner Ehrsam and Theo Stahl on their Pz.V Panther. Two of them were killed in Normandy, Ehrsam survived war.

SS-Ostuf. Herbert Höfler of 8./SS-PzRgt. 12 "Hitlerjugend". He was Zugführer and then Kompanieführer when Hans Siegel had to recover from wounds and when he had to lead the II.Abteilung of the Rgt. .

Очень интересная фотография. Инспекция дивизии "Гитлерюгенд" Рундштедтом - стоит комроты Шрот и отдает фельдмаршалу нацистское приветствие, а рядом один из его командиров взводов, как раз переведенный из Вермахта, отдает армейское.

SS-Obersturmfuhrer Willy Peter Hansmann, SS number 285 133, 1./12.SS-Aufklarung-Abteilung Hitlerjugend.

In 1939 Peter was in 6.SS-Germania over to 1942 where he was then a member of 2.SS-Nordland, then later in 1942 he was in 1.Kompanie, Aufklarungs-Abteilung SS-Panzergrenadier-Division 'Wiking' and Stab, SS-Aufklarungs-Abteilung (Wiking). Last in his career Peter was the leader of 1.Kompanie, Panzer-Aufklarungs-Abteilung 12 'Hitlerjugend'. It appears that Peter was court-martialled while a member of the division for reckless driving that resulted in a death. Afterwards Hansmann, who died in 1993, was transferred to the SS-Pz.Aufkl.Ers.Abt. in September 1944. No further assignments are reflected in his file.

9th June 1944, a FlaK 38(t) column of 12.SS FlaK Abteilung pass alongside troopers of 15. (Aufklarungs) SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 25 in the village of Rots.

In September 1942, the German Chancellor ordered leaders from within the Hitler-Youth (HJ) to military training camps of the Waffen-SS. Erich Bissoir (EKII, 7th Aug 1944), Scharfuhrer in the Motor-HJ, was amongst this group. After 6 weeks of pre-military training, Erich was formerly enrolled into the Waffen-SS and then sent home on leave. Erich’s actual military service started about 9 months later on 15th June 1943 at Bitche (France). After 2½ months of basic training, Erich and his comrades were put on a train to Mailly-le-Camp in France where SS-Panzerregiment 12 was being formed. Erich was now being trained as a Kradschutze. After receiving equipment and further build-up training, the Regiment was transferred to Belgium in January 1944 where they joined the rest of the 12th SS-Panzerdivision 'Hitlerjugend'. Here, training continued for several months until the Spring of 1944 when they were transferred back to France. Near Evreux.

In the early morning of 10th August, Erich had to go on his motorbike from his Regimental HQ to a small Kampfgruppe positioned near Hautemesnil. he was driving along the N-158 (known as Jabo-Rennstrecke)., when he stopped On a small hilltop between Quesnay and Langannerie, at this point he was 'engaged' by two M5 Greyhounds about 500-600 yards Northeast of the road, during the fire he was hit in the left arm and upper body as well as his bike being destroyed, he returned to his HQ were the unit medic (SS-Unterscharfuhrer Fabian) took care of his wounds and transferred him to the field hospital.

This is where Erich’s experiences in Normandy came to an end. After being wounded, he returned to Germany. Erich was lucky to save his arm and recovery took several months. He never returned to his Division and surrendered to American forces on 12th April 1945. He was transferred into French captivity in February 1946 and returned home on 1st May 1949.

 

SS-Schutze Hans Kayser, (Born 13th Feb 1926, KIA 11th June 1944 during a low level Air attack at Ussy 10kms NW of Falaise). Hans volunteered for service in the Waffen-SS in May 1943, his initial/basic training consisted of only three weeks from 4th to 24th July at a military training camp at Sugraal. On completion of basic training, Hans took part in specialist training and became an artilleryman in III./SS Panzer Artillery Regiment 12.

 

Panther '304' of 3./SS-Panzer-Regiment 12 this was the Company Commanders (SS-Obersturmfuhrer Rudolf von Ribbentrop) vehicle, the image was taken while the unit was undergoing a training period in Flanders. The turret number appears to be in white outline only.

Oberleutnant Pallas, Commander 10./III (Gep.), SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26. Pallas was a Heer officer assigned to the 'Hitlerjugend' for the purpose of filling out the ranks as well as ensuring combat leaders with experience augmented the fresh recruits from the Hitler Youth. He is wearing a tailored tunic made from Italian camouflage material, showing the rank of SS-Obersturmfuhrer.

 

SS Sturmbannfuhrer Arnold Jurgensen, future Knights Cross holder, commander of I./12. SS-Panzer Regiment, veteran of LSSAH. He was killed in action during the attacks on Butgenbach 23rd Dec. 1944, during Operation Wacht em Rhein.

 

Officers of 12. SS-Pz.Rgt 'Hitlerjugend' in spring 1944. With Knight Cross is SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Wilhelm Beck. He received the RK for actions as commander of 2/SS-Pz Rgt 'Leibstandarte' during Third Battle for Kharkov in winter of 1943. His company in 19 days of combat destroyed 120 artillery pieces and 9 T-34 tanks. In the suburbs of Kharkov he destroyed another two T-34's with his own tank. He was killed in a carpet bombing attack by Allied forces near Caen on 10.6.1944
