An image dated between 21st June - 11th July 1944 (date of Meyers promotion to SS Standartenfuhrer and Mohnkes Knights Cross award). From right to left are SS Sturmbannfuhrer Gerd Bremer (SS number 310405) commander 12.SS Aufklarungs Abteilung, SS Standartenfuhrer Kurt Meyer initially commander SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 25 and then 12.SS Panzer Division 'Hitlerjugend', SS Sturmbannfuhrer Max Wunsche commander 12.SS Panzer Regiment, SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Wilhelm Mohnke commander SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26 and a u/k SS Standartenfuhrer. This image appears to be taken somewhere in the grounds around Ardenne Abbey.

A lovely image of three 'Hitlerjugend' Officers attending a unit sports day, at the moment I can only identify SS Sturmbannfuhrer Jurgensen (r), I would appreciate any assistance in identifying the remainder, thank you.

SS-Brigadefuhrer and commander of 12. SS-Panzer-Division 'Hitlerjugend' Hugo Krass (1911-1980) in formal dress as an Untersturmfuhrer (2nd Lieutenant), pre war image.

635 is the Platoon Commanders vehicle, the crew appear to be taking a break from training to have a hot meal, the four crew are dressed in Kriegsmarine 'leathers' as is usual for II. Abteilung, the trooper (rear) appears to be wearing a raincoat, possibly the Platoon/vehicle commander.

Post war signature of SS-Unterscharfuhrer Willy Kretzschmar, one of 'Hitlerjugends' tank aces. Kretzschmar accounted for 15 Allied tanks during the battles in Normandy.

Here we see 'Sepp' Dietrich greeting members of LSSAH. On the right is SS Sturmbannfuhrer Fritz Witt (unusually wearing a Heer stalhelm), soon to be Divisional Commander of 'Hitlerjugend' and to the left of our 'Sepp' is SS Sturmbannfuhrer Wilhelm Mohnke soon to be commander of 'Hitlerjugends' 26.SS Panzergrenadier Regiment.

SS Untersturmfuhrer Erwin Höke (15th Nov. 1920 - 25th Jan 1998), a Leibstandarte veteran since 1940, commanded 2. Batterie (Wespe) of SS Artillerie Regiment 12 (12.SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend). Höke was wounded while destroying two Canadian anti-tank guns on the night of 8th June 1944.

At dawn on the morning of 26th June 1944, the Allies began a ferocious three hour bombardment of the 'Hitlerjugend' positions centred in and around St Mauvieu. Shortly after the barrage ended, SS-Unterscharfuhrer Emil Durrs Abteilung HQ (4./26.SS Panzergrenadier Regiment) came under attack from a force of M4 Shermans. As if the situation was not desperate enough, a flamethrower tank (crocodile) appeared. SS-Unterscharfuhrer Durr immediately volunteered to 'kill' the tank. Picking up a Panzerfaust he leapt from cover, took aim and fired but his shot went wide! Now the enemy tanks turned on him and opened fire with their machine guns. Durr was hit in the chest but managed to make his way back to cover. Furious at his failure, he snatched up another Panzerfaust and set off again despite his wounds and his comrades attempts to dissuade him, however the Allied tanks once again drove him back with machine gun fire. Durr knew that if the 'Crocodile' was not knocked out, his comrades would be finished so, despite heavy enemy machine gun fire he ran forward, towards his target, this time carrying a Haft-Hohlladung (magnetic ant-tank weapon). Reaching the tank unscathed, he placed the charge on its hull and waited for the explosion. The charge fell off! Durr ran forward, picked it up and held it to the tanks hull, knowing full well that his own life would be forfeit.
The charge exploded and the tank burst into flames. Durr felt a tremendous punch in his chest as the blast flung him like a rag doll, to lie paralysed by the excruciating pain of his mutilated limbs. Despite his chest wound and mutilated legs, he managed to drag himself back to his men who pulled him into cover and summoned a medical orderly. Nothing could be done for him other than to make him as comfortable as possible as his life ebbed away. His kameraden carried him to the shade of a tree in a small hollow and gently laid him down. He asked to be propped up so that he could see what was happening, but the smoke and flames obscured the scene " Is it gone?" he asked. His comrades gently removed his helmet and laid him back down, his gas mask container used as a pillow. He lay, quiet and thoughtful, his blue eyes clear, then turned to his comrades and said "Say hello to my wife, and little ones - look after yourselves" Durr then closed his eyes, took one last deep breath, and was still. The heroic NCO from Muhlacher in Wurttemberg was awarded the Knights cross of the Iron Cross for his bravery and self sacrifice on the 23rd August 1944, becoming the first junior NCO of the 12.SS Panzer Division to receive the award.

A heavily camouflaged Sd.kfz 250 of SS Aufklarungs Abteilung 12 on the outskirts of Krinkelt, Belgium, 18th December 1944.

A 'Hitlerjugend' soft-skin vehicle (Fiat 626) operating in Caen, the divisional insignia appears to be on a black background.

A heavily camouflaged 12.SS Sd.kfz 251 with a Hotchkiss 25mm French AA gun mounted. The image was taken 9/10 August 1944 near Soumont-Saint-Quentin.

Hitlerjugend troopers of 25.SS Panzergrenadier Regiment being searched by their captors (Glengarry Highlanders), Authie 9th July 1944. The 'waffenfarbe' on the epaulettes of the SS soldier (left) may indicate he is from a 'specialist' trade. Later in the Normandy campaign widespread rumours/reports of Allied mistreatment of 'Hitlerjugend' prisoners made surrender less frequent.

This Sd.Kfz.7/1 from 12.SS 'Hitlerjugend' shows the earlier style cab made from flat armoured plate.

A 'knocked out' Jagdpanzer IV/48 of 1/SS. Pz. Jg. Abt. 12 in the area of de Saint-Aignan-de-Cramesnil. Two Jagdpanzers of 1. Kompanie operated in the area (commanded by SS Obersturmfuhrer Georg Hurdelbrink and SS Rudolf Oberscharfuhrer Roy) alongside soldiers of I./ SS Pz.Gren.Rgt.25 and Panzer IVs of 5. and 7. Kompanien of II./ SS Panzer Regiment 12.

Two 'tankers' of 'Hitlerjugend' pose with a 'knocked out' British Cromwell. Both soldiers wear one-piece coveralls in M44 'Pea Dot' and a leather belt fitted with a NCO/EM buckle.

A FOO belonging to 12.SS 'Hitlerjugend' possibly silent registering targets prior to the next attack, he is utilizing a knocked-out M4 Sherman ‘Firefly’ as cover, Caen, France, 1944.

Reported to be soldiers of II./SS Panzer Regiment 12, Belgium 1944? any assistance in identifying individuals would be appreciated.

A Panzer IV/70 (v) in Hungary 1945, the vehicle is from either 'Hitlerjugend' or 'Leibstandarte', I would be interested in any information to clarify. Two versions of the vehicle saw use in Hungary, the interim Panzer IV/70 (a), which mounted the superstructure on a Panzer IV tank hull, and the Panzer IV/70 (v), which used the specially designed Jagdpanzer IV hull and superstructure. Both had the same thickness of front armour, but the Panzer IV/70 (v) was lower and had a better integrated hull and superstructure with well-sloped armour.

SS Untersturmfuhrer Kurt Bogensperger and his crew shortly after Bogensperger was awarded the Iron Cross First and Second Class simultaneously on 24th July 1944. Bogensperger came to the 12. SS Hitlerjugend Division from the LSSAH in November 1943 as a SS Oberscharfuhrer and Reserve Officer Candidate. After being promoted to SS Standartenoberjunker d.R. on 1.2.1944 he was assigned leadership of 1. Platoon, 3./SS Panzer Rgt. 12. He was awarded the Iron Cross First and Second Class after he and his Platoon repulsed a British attack on Authie only a 100 meters away from the command post of Panzergrenadier Rgt.25. Numerous British tanks were knocked out, Bogenspergers unit suffered no losses. The combined 3. Kompanie destroyed 27 tanks on this day, and Kompanie Commander SS Obersturmfuhrer Rudolf von Ribbentrop was awarded the German Cross in Gold. Bogensperger fell on 7th of August 1944 when his Panzer was knocked out while leading his men during an attack on Grimbosq. He died of his wounds, four months past his 20th birthday.

A Panzergrenadier of 12. SS 'Hitlerjugend' advances past a number of knocked out Allied Shermans, the trooper appears to be wearing a one-piece M44 'Pea Dot' coverall with a 'Blurred Edge' helmet cover. He carries his gas mask case in the manner usually used by dispatch riders/motorcycle troops. He seems to be heavily weighed down with a 'heavy weapon' tripod?

A MkIV of 6./II Abteilung SS Panzer Regiment 12, crosses a Bridge in Belgium during a training exercise. Typical of the II Abteilung is that the crew and observers' are wearing U-Boat leathers.

Reichsfuhrer SS Heinrich Himmler in conversation with soldiers of 12. SS Panzer Division 'Hitlerjugend' in France in the spring of 1944. The soldier (2nd from right) appears to be wearing the Close Combat Bar in Silver (NahKampfspange en Silber), the SS Sturmmann (3rd from right), appears to be wearing a War Merit Cross ribbon, and the SS Sturmmann (4th from right) wears a EKII ribbon and what seems to be a Panzer Assault Badge? (Panzerkampfabzeichen) on his left breast pocket.

'Hitlerjugend' Panzergrenadiers surrender to British infantry in the area of Marcelet/Carpiquet, 4 July, 1944. As usual with this unit, there is a wide variation of uniforms being worn, M44 'Pea-Dot' tunic and M40? trousers (l), M44 'Pea-Dot' tunic with Italian pattern camouflage trousers (c) and 'Blurred Edge'? smock with 'Pea-Dot' trousers (r).

This image of a Panzer IV/70 (V) has been reported to be of 'Hitlerjugend' in Hungary, 1945, has anyone any further information? I would be particularly interested in further images of this unit during 1945, its order of battle, insignia used (if any?) etc

'Hitlerjugend' SS Panzergrenadiers dug in deep in the Normandy earth, on the right is a Panzer Officer, possibly carrying out a ground reconnaissance for future offensive operations.

An 8cm GrW34 team prepare to move out to the 'mortar line' the team is weighed down with additional 8cm rounds, the soldier on the right has the panoramic sight (Richtaufsatz 35) for the GrW34 in a protective case (around his neck). In the background a group of SS Panzergrenadiers wait for the order to advance.

The soldier on the left is dressed more conventionally with M44 Pea-Dot trousers and tunic under his 'dress' tunic (see EKII ribbon). Both wear snow camouflage 'coats' and greatcoats.

A post war signature of Sturmmann Hans Baumann (image Kharkov, 1943), Hans served in the Panzerjager Abteilungen of both LSSAH and Hitlerjugend.

Hitlerjugend and LW/WH troops being searched by their captors, it appears that the SS troopers have been separated from their comrades from the other branches of service!

    1. After the award our 'boys' are all smiles and congratulations, the types of uniform seen in this image vary from a leather tunic worn by SS Sturmbannfuhrer Wunsche, a StuG wrap-round tunic worn by Olboeter and a rather unique jacket (based on the M43) worn by our 'Sepp', of note is that Dietrich is wearing a Heer belt. The SS Hauptsturmfuhrer congratulating our hero has himself been decorated with the EKI and the Close Combat Badge either in silver or gold? awarded for 30/50 combat days respectively. We also see Sturmbannfuhrer Herbert Meyer in the background, the Divisional Ia.
    2. Here we have an image taken at the Divisions Headquarters on the occasion of the award of the Knights Cross to Sturmbannfuhrer Olboeter (27th July 1944), from left to right we have a rather well dressed

A MkIV of II. Abteilung, heavily camouflaged in the Normandy hedgerows. Unusually there appears to be zimmerit anti-magnetic paste 'painted' onto the 'spaced' turret armour! and what appears to be a steel plate laying across the area of the radio operators position.

MkIV crew pose for the camera, in what appears to be a camouflaged maintenance area. All the crew are wearing 'Pea Dot' one-piece coveralls and belts fitted with SS EM buckles.
