We do dance to comfort the souls of the deceased, but I don't think this is a Shinto or Buddhist ceremony. A dance similar to this one exists in Japan, but it is performed during festivals held throughout the country during the summer and autumn. (The choreography is also different in each region). This dance is probably a creation of the Chinese. In my opinion, this dance is a bit strange. While such dances are performed to mourn the soul of the deceased, Shinto and Buddhist rituals are much different. I will leave you with a link to a video as an example. Video 1: Shinto Rituals to honour the souls of those who have died in battle 0:00 - 15:00 Ritual offering to the dead 15:00 - 28:00 Words offered to the dead 28:00 - 32:30 Dance to comfort the souls of the dead 28:00 - Prayers for the dead This is the approximate sequence of events. Video 2: Buddhism Dance to comfort the souls of the dead → Prayers for the dead Buddhism is also performed in the same way.
