This (Jul Teller) was only intended for presentation to selected SS men. It has as a central design a beautiful Germanic eagle clutching a sword and oak leaves, all within the border inscription WIR WERDEN UNS SOLANGE HERUMSCHLAGEIN BIS UNSERE VERFLUCTHEN FEINDE SICH ZUM FRIENDEN BEQUEMEN Maker’s mark is on the back (the Allach logo). It says on the back that the obverse contains the words of Frederick the Great in a letter to d’Argens in the year 1758. D’Argens was Jean Baptiste de Boyer Marquis d’Argens, 1704-1771. He was a brilliant writer and philosopher. Frederick the Great of Prussia was very impressed with his books and papers and invited him to come to Potsdam where Frederick installed him as Kammerherr and director o f the academy in 1769. He returned to France where he died in 1771 near Toulon. The saying on the plate roughly translates from the old German to these fiery words of Der Alte Fritz: “We will fight against our damned enemies and peace will only come when they capitulate completely.” The plate measures about 10 inches in diameter. It has been professionally repaired, so the consigner says. If so, I cannot see where the break occurred, except the Wir Werden section seems a little clouded where the words begin.
